Presentation
Born in 1932 in Tel Aviv and died in 2015, Menashe Kadishman was an Israeli painter and sculptor.
He studied sculpture with Moshe Sternschuss and Rudi Lehmann before leaving for London in 1959 where he discovered minimalist painting and came close to certain painters like Anthony Caro. He did his first exhibition at Grosvenor gallery.
In the 50's, while doing his artistic training, Menashe Kadishman worked as a shepherd in a kibbutz. This experience had an effect on him and influenced his art, as he displayed a flock of colorful sheep during the Venice biennial in 1978. This was the main theme of his work. In the 90's, Menashe Kadishman also created works for the Jewish museum in Berlin. Through this installation, the artist doesn't only highlight the Shoah victims but all the victims who went through violence and the war.
He received the Israel award in 1995, one of the most important rewards of his country.
